Over two days, you’ll have the opportunity to gain insight into the beauty of Suzhou, home to a number of idyllic gardens, with the Master of the Nets Garden and the famous Humble Administrator’s Garden being highlights worth seeing. Suzhou is known as the “Venice of the East” and you’ll have the opportunity to understand the true charm of Suzhou as you stroll through the canals, lanes and alleys of Tongli Water Village. Admire the artistic features, architectural value and exhibitions of Suzhou Museum, itself a world-recognized masterpiece. Including transfers between attractions and an excellent English-speaking guide, this is a great way to get to know the heart of beautiful Suzhou. You’ll leave with more to come!
Travel Itinerary
Today’s adventure begins with a morning pickup from your Suzhou hotel, where your guide will pick you up in the lobby. The first stop is one of China’s most famous and spectacular gardens, the Humble Administrator’s Garden, located in the heart of Suzhou and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take some time for contemplation and calm in this classically designed private garden. Wander through the picturesque landscape, where traditional buildings, hills, lawns, flowers, and meandering streams blend with nature to create an environment with poetic elegance. In a stark contrast to history, you can admire the artistic features and architectural value of the Suzhou Museum, where the new building was designed by world-renowned architect I.M. Pei, who was responsible for the Louvre’s pyramid. Here you can also find the historic site of the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom’s Zhongwang Mansion. The artifacts here reflect ancient collections, especially paintings and airplanes from the Ming and Qing dynasties. Wander through the garden-style museum and feel the historical and cultural significance of Suzhou-style gardens. The stunning scenery will make you want to pick up your camera to take pictures. Continue on to visit the Master of the Nets Garden, a stunning classical garden with beautifully laid out pavilions, rockeries, corridors, bridges and ponds, all designed in stunning harmony. The traditional dwellings here date back to the Southern Song Dynasty in 1174. A highlight of today’s visit is a half-hour calligraphy class. Learn how this traditional craft became part of Chinese history and how it has been preserved to this day. At the end of the day, you will be returned to your hotel.
Note: As Suzhou Museum is closed on Mondays, your guide may make some adjustments to your itinerary if your tour falls on this day.
Depart your hotel in the morning and begin your day with a visit to Tiger Hill. Tiger Hill is a large park located on a hill, full of legends and beautiful scenery. The Tiger Hill Pagoda is a highlight here, set amidst extensive gardens, trees and lawns, dotted with ancient pavilions and stone artifacts. From your guide’s explanation, you will learn how the park’s beauty and tranquility belies its history. Visit Tongli Water Village and experience the charm of a Jiangnan water village. Tongli Water Village is famous for its well-preserved ancient buildings, private gardens, temples and traditional houses. Surrounded by five lakes, the waterscape is charming and the atmosphere is peaceful. You can stroll along the cobblestone streets at will, or enjoy tea and local music in a simple teahouse. Return to your hotel or train station in Suzhou and head to your next destination.

- Entering and exiting China from Hong Kong and Taipei are also available.
- Stays at entering and exiting cities (Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Taipei) can be extended.

- The tour guide may adjust the itinerary due to closure of the museums each Monday.
- At the conclusion of the tour, a transfer from your hotel to Hongqiao or Pudong Airport in Shanghai is available upon request at a surcharge.
- Stays at entering and exiting cities (Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Taipei) can be extended.
