Travel Itinerary

Upon your arrival at Xining airport , your dedicated tour guide will greet you outside the baggage claim area. During the transfer to your pre-booked four or five-star hotel in the city center, your guide will share insights about Xining’s rich history and key landmarks. The remainder of the day is yours to explore this fascinating city at your own pace.

In the morning, you can visit the Gelugpa Tibetan Buddhist Ta’er Monastery to admire its splendid architecture and art, including murals, butter sculptures and embroidery.
After lunch at a local restaurant, you will board the world’s highest railway night train to Lhasa. The train departs in the late afternoon, so you will have plenty of time to enjoy the scenery before nightfall.

The most scenic part of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway is the last 10 hours. At noon, you will pass the highest point – 5,200 meters (17,000 feet) above sea level, but don’t worry about altitude sickness because there is supplemental oxygen inside the train.
Arrival in Lhasa is in the evening. Your Tibetan private guide will be waiting for you and will take you directly to your hotel, where you can rest and begin to acclimate to the high altitude.

In the morning, ascend the Potala Palace. Explore this architectural wonder and cultural treasure. Admire the palace from four carefully selected viewpoints to fully appreciate its beauty.
Enjoy a walking tour in the afternoon. Meet devout pilgrims kneeling at the Jokhang Temple. Delve into the less touristy corners of Barkhor Street and experience the daily life of Tibetans. Learn about the history of Tibet at the Bandacang compound, the remains of Qing dynasty officials’ offices and residences of wealthy merchants. Finally, sit down with local Tibetans at the nunnery and enjoy a cup of Tibetan sweet tea.

The tour begins at Norbulingka (“Lhasa’s Summer Palace”). Spend a relaxing morning with local Tibetans. Then visit Drepung Monastery, the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery. Learn more about the Gelugpa sect of Tibetan Buddhism.
In the afternoon, you will watch monks debate ancient scriptures in the courtyard of Sera Monastery. Your private guide will take you to see thangka murals painted on the huge rocks of the “back mountain”, which are overlooked by most tourists.

Monastery on the Holy Lake
Depart from Lhasa on your penultimate day to explore the sacred Yamdrok Yumtso Lake. After viewing the lake from a popular platform, you can have a picnic by the lake if the weather is good.
After the visit, return with full of memories and wonderful experiences‌‌, you will be transferred to Lhasa airport to take a flight back home or to your next destination in China.
