Wonders of Ancient China - The Silk Road
This tour will leave you with great memories and allow you to experience the wonders and vast landscapes of ancient China in the far reaches of the legendary Silk Road. Cross the Gobi Desert like an ancient traveler, visit oases, listen to legends of the warring factions that prompted the construction of battlements, and create your own photo opportunities. In contrast, admire art artifacts, murals, carvings, and museums that show what life was like at the time.
Travel Itinerary
Your tour starts at 8:30 AM, when your guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel in a comfortable air-conditioned car and drive you for an hour to Yumen Pass. Enjoy the scenery along the way, from the bustling city to the desolate Gobi. Get a close look at the ruins of Yumen Pass, named after the many jade caravans that passed through it, and hear stories of its past prosperity. Imagine the busy scene of this important pass, with many caravans coming and going every day in ancient times, and the desolate scene today.
Visit the best-preserved Han Great Wall, which is more magnificent than the famous Badaling Great Wall and Mutianyu Great Wall. Due to limited materials, this section is made of a mixture of sand, mud, rose willow, reeds and ramie (a type of Indian hemp).
Get up close and learn more about the story of the Great Wall, and take photos of the remains of this 2,200-year-old structure.
Another hour’s drive will take you to your next destination, Dunhuang Yadan National Geopark. Take a cable car ride through the park and marvel at the natural erosion of the rocks, which have taken on amazing shapes – such as lions, peacocks, pyramids and sphinxes. Ongoing weather influences mean that current shapes will also gradually change.
The tour ends at approximately 6:30 PM. After a full day in the stunning Gobi Desert, you can relax in the comfort of your vehicle before returning to your hotel.

- The tour guide may adjust the itinerary due to closure of the museums each Monday.
- At the conclusion of the tour, a transfer from your hotel to Hongqiao or Pudong Airport in Shanghai is available upon request at a surcharge.
- Stays at entering and exiting cities (Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Taipei) can be extended.
